Time flies…

It has been a minute since I’ve been able to come up for air long enough to write.

To say the last couple of weeks have been busy is an understatement.

Work has been keeping me busy. It has definitely been more hours than I was expecting, but I am not complaining. The work is meaningful and it is keeping me engaged. I’m learning a lot as I go along, and while I’m still making a few minor typographic errors in my stories, the few stories that do get reviewed by my manager are having significantly fewer corrections that need to be made noted. What’s pissing me off is when a story is looked over by me multiple times, and by the editors, and I still catch a mistake a few days later. Oh well, it is what it is. At least I have the tools to be able to go in online and make an immediate correction myself when I do catch it.

Lynn and I did a quick trip to Calgary last weekend for the Wolf Man’s funeral. It was a nice service. It was also nice catching up with some old friends that we don’t get a chance to see very often. Unfortunately, because I had work to do, and an examine this week to prepare for, it was only a day trip. It definitely made for a long day. It also reminded me why I love living in rural Alberta. Calgary drivers are insane.

This week was another busy one with work. They have still not found a full-time person for Stettler, so I have been doing the layout of the Castor paper and helping with the layout of the Stettler paper, which has been a neat experience. Honestly, I’m loving the job, and part of me is hoping that things work out so I can just flip into that permanent full-time position from my part-time one. I feel like I am working with a good, supportive, team, and as busy as things have been I am feeling good. I’m feeling like I’m doing what I’m supposed to be doing.

As for school, I wrote my Communications 201 final yesterday. For once, I walked out of the exam without an overwhelming feeling of dread. There were a few questions I drew blanks on, but I did what I could to bluff my way through them, so I’m hoping for some at least part marks on those ones. I don’t know that I did stellar on the exam, but I am confident I passed, which means three more credits in the bag. With Communications done, I need to: a.) register for my course starting in February, and b.) dig in and get through my English course in the next six weeks.

As far as my English course goes, I am about half way through the Charles Dickens novel Great Expectations. Never having been exposed to the novel before -or much of Dickens work outside of A Christmas Carol for that matter- I wasn’t sure what to expect. While the writing is definitely old, and in some cases approaching archaic, I am finding myself enjoying the story. I am just grateful for the notes in the back of the book of translating some of the old-time wording into something more understandable.

I’m looking forward to tomorrow. With how busy things have been, I’ve been maximizing my hours at work and being timed out for the week, and with not much else going on I can actually have part of a day off. I’m going to use it to get a workout in, do a long awaited repair at the bookstore that Lynn has been patiently waiting for me on, and maybe get some gaming in.

The workout is going to suck. With how busy work has been, and with the fact that I quite frankly got discouraged after my last set of bloodwork, my workout regime has gone out the window, and unfortunately, I’ve been eating more causing weight gain. I know I need to make a change. I also know that going into the holiday season is not the best time of year to be making it, but it is what it is. If I don’t make a change now, I know I have further, worse complications, to look forward to down the road, and I need to keep that from happening.

Thanks for following along.
