Michael Connelly has done it again, with his hit novel “The Night Fire.”

A decades old murder, with the suspect still on the street. A more contemporary case, where a homeless person living in a tent is burned alive. A murder-book hidden away for decades brought to light by the widow of the cop who hid it.

Retired L.A.P.D. detective Harry Bosch and active L.A.P.D. detective Renee Ballard team up again to figure out how these seemingly separate cases intersect together in a gripping tale. Bosch’s half-brother Mickey Haller, the Lincoln Lawyer even plays a small part of the investigation.

I have been a Michael Connelly fan since I picked up my first Harry Bosch novel a few years ago. Even with as many books as he’s written, Connelly manages to keep the characters relatable and down to earth, and dogged on their quest to find the truth.

If one hasn’t checked out any of Connelly’s novels, yet are a fan of the detective novel genre, you are missing out, and I highly recommend the read. Connelly has definitely grown in his writing, as has Bosch, and while I predict that the end is near for the venerable character, the baton is seamlessly being passed to Ballard, and I look forward to the continuing stories involving the L.A.P.D. detective.

Since the beginning of the new year, I have been incorporating reading into my evening routine most nights, and the first book I started this habit with is “The Night Fire.” The book is a definite page turner, and it seemed a good way to start the new reading habit.

“The Night Fire” is now out in paperback wherever books are sold.
