Bumblebee Review (No Spoilers). Best Transformers yet!

Best. Transformers. Movie. Yet!

A friend and I went to go see Bumblebee on the last night it was playing in our local theater. It was not what I was expecting, but definitely better than the dumpster-fire known as Transformers: The Last Knight.

Aside from throwing the timeline of the existing Transformers movies for a loop (not that they haven’t already contradicted or changed it themselves…) Bumblebee sets up how the feisty robot comes to earth and befriends his first human back in the 1980’s.

The fight scenes and special effects were awesome. Despite being Bee’s story, the movie did feature other Transformers, with all of them having a look that is a clear nod to their original generation 1 counterparts.

The writing was well done, and all the actors really got into their roles well. There was a few places where the green-screen work was blatant, but in a special effects movie like this, I think that would be hard to escape.

If more of the Transformers movies that have come before Bumblebee had this level of story and acting, the entire franchise would not be on life-support as it is now. I like some of Michael Bay’s work, but the last couple of Transformers movies have had a “Bay-ham” level that I am surprised has not triggered seizures in people.

Overall, Bumblebee is a great movie and definitely worth the watch. This movie could also work as a good soft- reboot if the studio’s decide to revive the series.
