Merry Christmas: A year in review

Merry Christmas and happy holidays to family and friends near and far.

I find it hard to believe that we are in the last week of 2023. It doesn’t seem real, yet at the same time, all too real.

The last year has been another year of tremendous growth, though some of my plans have fallen by the wayside. There are only so many hours in a day, and unfortunately, some stuff had to give.

Still, I need to look at the positives. I finished off another couple of university courses, though the last couple I have been working on have been absolute beasts. Still, forward progress is forward progress and I look forward to continuing my education more into 2024.

On the work front, I am more or less happy with where things sit. I’ve picked up a third newspaper/coverage area which is challenging me professionally as well as personally but I am not finding it overwhelming. I’m also continuing to jump on and grab all the work-related courses and webinars I can, to further expand my knowledge base and one of my goals for early in January will be to re-certify in Canadian Press style.

As far as my photography goes, I did pick up a couple of clients this year, and got out for some wildlife shooting. Some of my other plans to go exploring the province further afield did get sidelined just by generally busy-ness and the wildfires which swept through our province last spring and summer. My hope is that some of those plans will be able to come to fruition in 2024.

Towards the end of the year, I did manage to get back into my creative groove and released a couple of videos on my YouTube channel. My goal is to do more video work in 2024! I have the tools, I just need to make the time to actually do it.

On the home front, Lynn and I managed a couple of trips to Calgary and a couple of trips to Saskatchewan which we’re finitely nice times away. We have gotten away from buying each other dust-collecting “stuff” and instead are focusing on experiences. In 2023, we went to see Tim & the Glory Boys, Alabama – who is still touring 50 years after forming – and as usual we took in the Calgary Comic Expo.

For 2024, we already have Expo tickets booked, and have concert tickets to go see Alan Doyle, former frontman from East Coast Canadian group Great Big Sea.

Also on the home front, Lynn finally had a nagging medical condition she had been dealing with finally dealt with and she is doing significantly better now. It has been a night and day different, and she has actually been able to enjoy life again.

The last year has been busy, full of change, and at times nearly overwhelming, but I have loved every minute of the journey. I look forward to sharing more of the journey in the year ahead..

From my house to yours, Merry Christmas.

Kevin
