Downtime…

I am appreciative of a supportive boss.

Since coming back from holidays at the beginning of May, I have been going pretty close to non-stop. Throw in a provincial election and a plethora of other things that have been happening in the region and I have barely had a chance to catch my breath.

Because of this, my publisher told me to make myself scarce today and have a day off. It was nice; I met a friend for lunch, checked out the local farmer’s market, and a new store in town, played some Playstation, and hit the books for a couple of hours.

The only downside to the day off is it came after a major news event in the region.

I stopped at Walmart for some groceries after work yesterday and as I came out I looked to the northeast and saw this funnel cloud.

According to reports, the funnel cloud was near a community about 30 minutes away. That should give an indication of the size of this monster. Needless to say, it got my heart going a little.

Fortunately, some colleagues were able to get a story up on the website fairly quickly. Still, not being in the office today means I have to reach out to Environment and Climate Change Canada tomorrow to see what they can tell me.

Considering that today is only June 1, and the brutality of the fires and weather events we have seen across the country so far this season, I am honestly worried about what the rest of summer is going to bring.

At any rate, I’m not going to argue too loudly about having the day off. I’m definitely feeling more rested because of it. And, frankly, I’ll take whatever downtime I can get as June is going to be nuts.

I have a Calgary trip this weekend for a photography workshop sponsored by Canon Canada on Sunday, I have three separate rodeos to cover, plus another grad.

As busy as things are going to be, though, I wouldn’t change a thing. I’m loving where I am in life.
